The Radio Romania News “Current Issues”

I attended the Radio News “Current Issues”, organized by Romania Actualitati Radio, at May 21, 2019, as a representative of the Romanian Association of Information Security Assurance (RAISA).

The discussion aimed the latest rasnsomware attacks that targeted the medical systems from Romania. The ransomware are applications that block or restrict user access to the computer system or data in electronic format until a ransom is paid to cyber criminals. Ransomware attacks have become a preferred method of cybercrime groups with the emergence of virtual coins that facilitate the ransom.

Hospitals represent targets of cyber criminals because, unlike other institutions that have gradually integrated technology over several years, digitization in the medical field has only recently been achieved. For this reason, resources are not allocated to ensure the security of computer systems, making them particularly vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

The discussion can be listen on the podcast: media.3netmedia.ro/media/RRAOnline/audio/137737.mp3.
