Launching the study “Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity”

The study “Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity – Romania’s contribution to the field” was launched at the Permanent Representation of Romania to the European Union, Bruxelles, Belgium, on November 7, 2018. The study was developed by the researchers Ioan-Cosmin MIHAI (Romanian Police Academy), Costel CIUCHI (General Secretariat of the Romanian Government), and Gabriel PETRICĂ (University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania), in the series “Strategy and Policy Studies” (SPOS) coordinated by the European Institute of Romania.

The event was open by the Romanian Minister-delegate for European Affair, who underlined the importance of cybersecurity to the digital future of Europe and that Romania is interested in working on the issue of protecting citizens’ safety in the cyberspace. The study “Current challenges in the field of cybersecurity – Romania’s contribution to the field” was presented by Ioan-Cosmin MIHAI (Romanian Police Academy) and Costel CIUCHI (General Secretariat of the Romanian Government). Other important speakers from ENISA (The European Union Agency for Network and Information Security) and DG CONNECT presented also the newest challenges in the field of cybersecurity.

The general objective of this study was to analyze current cyberspace challenges, identifying threats, vulnerabilities, and risks to cybersecurity. Romania’s capacity to respond to the threats present in the virtual environment, both at national, European, and regional levels, was also studied.
